How Do you Maintain a Swimming Pool?

Having a pool can be a great source of summer fun for friends, family, and yourself. You’re able to relax and take a dip, spend time with the kids, and occasionally exercise (if you’re feeling up for it).

Many pool owners don’t realize how much work it to to properly maintain swimming pool and spa. Although a huge advantage in the buyer market, it is still a task and there needs to be a daily routine.

Taking care of your swimming pool is like taking care of your house! You need to clean it at least once a week, especially in these areas:

Skimmer baskets

Skimming and emptying the skimmer baskets is very important for your pool. A mesh net attached to a pole can help remove any floating debris on the surface of the pool water. However, skimmer baskets can catch bigger debris such as leaves or rocks. You should skim weekly and empty skimmer baskets regularly.

Unfortunately, algae grows on the walls of pools. Some areas will be worse than others but this requires someone to scrub and brush the concrete or vinyl of the swimming pool. Due to the walls and tile being at waterline, there will be algae and bacteria build up over time. Brushing your pool is one of the most important aspects of pool maintenance, yet a surprising number of pool owners don’t do it. By consistently brushing your swimming pool’s interior surface, you prevent algae buildup, remove dirt particles, and smooth the surface to ensure a long lasting finish.

Vacuuming can collect any particles that have sunk to the bottom of the pool. Bacteria won’t always float at the top, so vacuuming can create a cleaner environment and prevent further growth.

Run your Filters

You should your pool or spa filters every day. By running it every day there is a recurring filtration of fresh water to keep things clean and healthy.

pH management

Both pools and spa should consistently maintain a pH level of seven, however, there are many factors that can affect the pH level. To alleviate an unbalanced pH level try using pHin the bluetooth smart monitor that moderates the pH 24/7. You can always try an at home test kit as well.

You should always sanitize your pool by using chlorine, but be sure to monitor and manage the levels of the chemical on a daily basis.
